Fire Fighting Apparatus

 

Fire fighting apparatus includes all the equipment and systems used to fight fires on board. Important elements that crew must know include:

  • The ship’s fire control plan 
  • IMO symbols used for Life Saving Appliances (LSA) and Fire Fighting Appliances (FFA) 
  • Ship’s nomenclature (standard names and terms used on the ship) 
  • Location of evacuation groups 
  • Quantity and type of fire fighting equipment 
  • Escape routes 
  • Doors and ventilation systems 
  • Fire alarms and fire lockers 

Understanding these helps crew respond quickly and correctly during a fire emergency.
