Muster List or Station Bill
The Muster List (also called Station Bill) is a very important document. It contains the emergency duties and responsibilities of every crew member. It also shows lifeboat embarkation stations and abandon ship procedures.
Copies of the Muster List are displayed in key places:
- The bridge
- Engine control room
- Crew mess room
- Crew accommodation alleyways
The Muster List lists the specific functions each crew member must perform during different emergencies.
Boat Card (ID Card)
Every crew member receives a Boat Card. This card contains important safety information such as:
- Your assigned muster point
- Alternative muster point
- Emergency signals
- Your specific duties during an emergency
Training Manual
Every ship must have a Training Manual. It contains clear instructions and information about all the life-saving appliances provided on the ship. It also explains the best methods of survival at sea. The manual uses simple, easy-to-understand language and includes illustrations where necessary.
Location of Training Manuals: They are kept in the messroom and recreation rooms so that crew can easily refer to them.
Crew Muster Stations – General Instructions
All instructions about where you must go in an emergency are written on your Emergency Card, also known as the Boat & Fire Drill Card. You will receive this card shortly after joining the ship.
Emergency Card Duties:
- Know the instructions on your card for:
(a) “Boat Drill” – for Abandon Ship emergencies
(b) “Fire Drill” – for fire on board emergencies
- As a crew member, your active participation in Boat and Fire Drills is extremely important for the safety of the ship.
- It is the duty of every crew member to always keep their Boat and Fire Drill Card with them. The card shows the date it was issued.
- There is no excuse for not having your card. If you do not have it, report immediately to the Officer on duty on the bridge.
- When you sign off the ship, you must return the Boat and Fire Drill Card to your Department Head.
