Using teaching aids T1, T2, B2 and B4, the trainees should be able to explain basic definitions with reference to:
- flashpoint
- volatility
- upper flammable/explosive limit
- lower flammable/explosive limit
- auto-ignition temperature
- spontaneous combustion
- reactivity
- toxicity
- corrosivity
The instructors should, if possible, perform the following experiments to show the trainees:
- the determination of cargo temperature
- the determination of cargo density
- determination of colour of cargoes and use of a colour scale
- determination of flashpoint
- test for contamination by hydrocarbons
- test for contamination by chloride
- test for contamination by water
