Totally enclosed lifeboats provide maximum protection for survivors against harsh weather conditions, fire, smoke, and heavy seas. Each lifeboat is completely enclosed by a rigid, watertight structure that protects the occupants throughout rescue operations.

The enclosure is designed to:

  1. Provide complete shelter from environmental conditions.
  2. Allow entry through watertight hatches that can be securely closed after boarding.
  3. Permit the lifeboat to be rowed if mechanical propulsion becomes unavailable.
  4. Provide each seating position with a safety belt capable of securely restraining a person weighing up to 100 kilograms (220 pounds), even if the lifeboat capsizes.
