Preventing frostbite is far easier than treating it.

Whenever possible:

  • Limit exposure of bare skin to cold weather.
  • Protect exposed body parts with suitable clothing.
  • Keep the hands, feet, ears, and face warm by rubbing them gently whenever necessary.
  • Perform light movements and moderate exercise after prolonged sitting to maintain blood circulation.
  • Keep clothing, socks, and footwear dry.
  • Avoid smoking because it reduces blood circulation to the hands and feet.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol, as it increases body heat loss despite creating a false sensation of warmth.
