Marine Evacuation System (MES) Drills

Ships fitted with a Marine Evacuation System (MES) should regularly conduct drills that include practising all procedures required to prepare and deploy the evacuation system.

Normally, these drills should progress to the point immediately before actual deployment unless operational requirements permit full deployment.

SOLAS requires every vessel fitted with a Marine Evacuation System to carry approved onboard training aids. These training materials help familiarize crew members with the operation, deployment, and maintenance of the evacuation system without requiring actual activation during every drill.
