Burns and scalds require immediate treatment to reduce pain, prevent infection, and limit tissue damage.
Burn ointment should be applied generously to the affected area before covering it with two or three layers of sterile gauze. The dressing helps protect the wound while absorbing any fluid that may seep from the damaged tissues.
Blisters should never be burst intentionally, as the fluid inside helps protect the underlying tissue and reduces the risk of infection. They should be allowed to heal naturally.
Where necessary and under appropriate medical supervision, pain-relieving medication and antibiotics may also be administered.
