Preventing frostbite is far easier than treating it.
Whenever possible:
- Limit exposure of bare skin to cold weather.
- Protect exposed body parts with suitable clothing.
- Keep the hands, feet, ears, and face warm by rubbing them gently whenever necessary.
- Perform light movements and moderate exercise after prolonged sitting to maintain blood circulation.
- Keep clothing, socks, and footwear dry.
- Avoid smoking because it reduces blood circulation to the hands and feet.
- Avoid consuming alcohol, as it increases body heat loss despite creating a false sensation of warmth.
